The color of the year may be Classic Blue, but after ten days in the Hawaiian tropics…I want to cover every inch of my home in green. Plants and more plants, please! More is more is more. Traveling always gives me plant envy, and I love seeing the foliage that is unique to every place I visit.
Between Maui, the Big Island, and Oahu, my eyes were spoiled with layer after lush layer of green. These curling ferns around Kilauea’s steamy outskirts in Hawaii’s Volcanoes National Park were an absolute favorite.
In my own home, I have a little something growing by just about every sunny window. Since walking through Maui’s Iao Valley...I am inevitably inspired to go bigger. How amazing are these giant leaves?
The only large plant I have been able to brave is the ZZ (zamioculcas zamiifolia), also known as the Zanzibar Gem. It’s happy with any kind of light, doesn’t get mad if you forget to water it, and instantly adds a bohemian vibe to any space with its wild, bright green stems. The ZZ is native to Kenya, where my parents grew up, so that makes it extra fun. This one has been happily growing in the corner of my bedroom for the past three years.
Where to find the best plants in Atlanta
When I’m styling a space, bringing something from the outdoors, inside, is essential to completing the look. Cutting branches out of the yard is usually my first stop, followed by these local spots.
>>Gramma B’s: Walking through this gorgeous garden center will instantly lift your mood. They give great advice on unique plants to mix together and have a ton of cool vintage planters to choose from.
>>The Victorian: This industrial space inside Ponce City Market is the hot spot for all things tropical. They keep their plant care simple, and have great terracotta pots in pretty shapes.
>>Varnish + Vine: Cactus heaven in a pop-up shop. They house cuttings super big and small and even rent out their cute warehouse space for creative workshops or photo shoots.
>>Cinema Greens: Stalk their Instagram for the scoop on killer plant sales when it’s time to unload props from movie and television production. They also bring big drama for special events if you’re in the market for a giant wall garden or magazine worthy wedding backdrop.
>>Le Jardin Francais: Beautiful plant boutique with the most charming floral design aesthetic. It’s my go-to for sending gifts and picking up oversized, fresh cut branches for dreamy dining table centerpieces.
We will have a ton of hand-painted pots and cool little boho planters at Tribe’s spring and summer pop-ups that you can pair with your favorite plants. Follow along on social to stay in the loop or Get on the list to find out when and where to shop.
